Based on the prompt that was given, I chose to focus on one of the options from the two. The option that I chose was that of the Dashboard redesign.
Demo Video & Prototype
Here is the demo video for the same:
You can find the interactive prototype for this here.
Style Guide
The detailed design specification can be found here.
Based on the user research I did, I came up with the following color guide:
Method
I decided to splitting my 2-day sprint into one day for research and one day for design and testing. You can see my full method below.
User Research
I started with some preliminary comparative analysis between various Business Intelligence tools such as Power BI and Tableau and made some notes about what were their difference and what I liked/disliked about them.
Then I planned a user study through a series of contextual enquiries. I recruited 4 users, of which I could interview 3 as one of them fell through. Of the 3 interviews that I did do, one was a new user of BI tools and two were experienced users.
Design
Since I had two major user types, I decided to focus on each of their major complaints and suggestions. I started sketching out in two main areas - i) customization ii) clear and simple design.
Final Results
After I conducted a usability test with two users midway through the design, I found some additional flaws that I corrected to finally come up with a design that embedded both the design requirements from the prompt and the design insights gained from my research.
In two days, this was what I was able to come up. If I had more time, I would definitely go ahead and build this prototype with several more screens, and may be do a mid-fi prototype first, put it to test with at least 5-8 users, and then build out the Hi-Fi prototype.
